Economics
Welcome to the wonderful world of Economics! The information and skills you learn in class will become tools that you will find helpful in making decisions in your own life. Economics is an analytical social science so our studies will include basic theories of the subject as well as increasing our understanding of human behavior.
Course Objectives:
Students will learn:
- Fundamental Economic Concepts
- Microeconomics Concepts
- Macroeconomic Concepts
- International Economics
- Personal Finance Economics
Materials Needed:
Pencils, pens, a spiral bound notebook with at least three sections, and an optional basic scientific calculator (no
graphing calculators.)
Evaluation:
A= 90-100 B= 80-89 C= 71-79 D= 70 F= 69 or below
Grades will be calculated on a point system. Final grades will be the percentage of points achieved
in relation to the total number of points given. Students will be graded on chapter tests, quizzes
(announced and unannounced), various class work assignments, and projects. I generally weigh the grades based on Test (60%), Projects (30%) and Work Ethic (10%). I do not accept poor quality work or late work unless due to an excused absence. All work missed from absences should be made up within three days. No extra credit is available.
- You will be taking an End-of-Course Test. Your score on this test will count as 15% of your final average.
Requirements and Expectations
I expect students to come to class on time and prepared to learn every day. This means, at a
minimum, you will be dressed appropriately, have pen, pencil, notebook, any homework
completed, and a positive, ready-to-learn attitude.
I do not tolerate disrespect of others or
disruptions in class that interfere with the ability of others to learn or my ability to teach. I expect
you to respect your environment at all times. You will be working in a cooperative environment
from time to time. Therefore, I expect you to work with other students to make sure they, as well as
yourself, understand the subject material.
A total of eighteen chapters will be covered in about fourteen weeks in order to cover necessary material for the End-of-Course-Test. Therefore, this is a fast-paced course which leaves no room for immature and inappropriate behavior.
Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom for water or restroom breaks unless medically necessary. These needs are to be taken care of before class begins. Students do not seem to have a problem with going 2.5 hours without a break during state testing so eighty minutes should not present a problem.
I expect all classroom and CEC rules to be observed at all times.
Classroom Rules
- Be seated in your desk when the bell begins to ring.
- Show respect for the teacher, classmates, and yourself at all times.
- Quiet when the intercom is on.
- Keep hands and feet to yourself.
- No personal grooming, of any type, in class.
- No food, drink, or whining allowed.
- Be prepared for class - bring paper, writing instrument, and a positive attitude to class every day.
- Students do not leave class. Use the restroom and get water before the tardy bell.
- Make-up work is your responsibility.
- Use blue or black ink or dark pencil lead. If I cannot read your handwriting, it is wrong.
