Work Ethic and AttendanceThe directors of Central Educational Center continue to provide the best possible educational programs for the team members of Coweta County High Schools. Doing so requires that we value the continual evaluation of the work ethic grade as mandated in the Needs Assessment conducted by the Steering Committee. Along with this assessment, the U. S. Department of Labor indicates that 85 percent of persons who lose their jobs do so because they lack a strong work ethic rather than lack of appropriate job skills. Factors most often cited are tardiness and absenteeism. To address the importance of developing a positive work ethic, CEC is implementing the following policy for the 2007-2008 school year: Absences: A student (team member) is allowed to miss five (5) days, per semester without penalty. After the 5th absence, the team member will lose two points (per day) from the final 9 week grade. These two points represent the team member’s class participation grade. A team member who is absent from class may make up work for one to eight excused or unexcused absences per term (semester - period of 18 weeks). However two points (per day) will still be deducted for any absences beyond five. After day eight, (unless there are extenuating circumstances) makeup work will NOT be allowed. Suspensions: Any team member that is suspended from school may NOT make up any missed assignments. Any suspended team member will lose 2 points (per day) from the overall grade. Tardies: After two tardies (per nine weeks), the team member will have one point deducted from the nine-week average for EVERY tardy, thereafter. Any team member with excessive tardies could be subject to disciplinary action which may include detention, in school suspension or loss of driving privileges. Skipping: Any team member that is caught “skipping” class will automatically lose two points per occurrence. If caught “skipping”, the team member will NOT be allowed to make up any missed assignments, regardless of the number of absences A discipline referral will be issued for any team member caught skipping class/school. New! New! New! *Good Attendance Rewards* Absences Tardies Added Points 0-1 2 or less 3 points 2 2 or less 2 points 3 2 or less 1 point Earning back points: Any team member who attends 20 consecutive days, without any absences or tardies, can earn back two points to their nine-week grade. This is only for a team member who has already had points deducted. The 20 consecutive days must be within the same grading period as when points were deducted. |
